JOY KREVES is a mixed media artist whose works explore the connections between language, psychology and landscape. She has been influenced by ideas of eco-philosopher Rev. Thomas Berry, Dr. Glenn Albrecht's "New Language of the Earth" vocabulary, and by Sister Miriam MacGillis' focus on connections between the health of the earth and of human communities. A member of the Radical Joy for Hard Times community group founded by Trebbe Johnson, she has participated in yearly Global Earth Exchanges, in which people make beauty for wounded places. "Questions For a Tree", her interactive community project, was exhibited at The Tulpehaking Nature Center Galleries in Hamilton, NJ, as part of the "ROOTED" exhibition. That project spawned a performance salon of written works by various authors performed on Sunday, May 1st, 2016. Her next version, "Questions for a Forest" was exhibited at the 2019 Hopewell Tour Des Arts. Kreves has exhibited extensively at area galleries and museums and places like The D&R Greenway Land Trust in Princeton, NJ. She exhibited with the Animal Architects artist group started and curated by Donna Payton, in their exhibitions at Arts Council of Princeton and at the Monmouth Museum, NJ. Kreves has worked with bees that she has gilded, and moss which she has preserved and dyed. In April 2015 she had a solo exhibition of those works at A Space On Main Gallery in Cranbury, NJ., and also in 2015 she had a solo exhibition of installations at the Tulpehaking Nature Center Galleries in Trenton, NJ. Her "Craving Nature: The Feast Project", installation was shown at the West Windsor Art Center in the spring of 2017. Her sculpture, "Mourning Rock With Kickstand" won Best of Show in the 2021 Mercer County Senior Exhibition and went on to win 2nd place in the 2021 New Jersey State Senior Exhibition. Her art studio is in Ewing, NJ near the Delaware River. 
A native of Illinois, Kreves earned both Bachelor and Masters degrees in art from Illinois State University, then moved to NYC. While living there she exhibited her artwork, furthered her violin studies at The New School, and created sculptural stage sets as well as performed on violin in various performance events in art galleries around the city. After moving to New Jersey, she opened JOY KREVES FINE ART, an art gallery in Frenchtown, where for five years she showed works by many young artists from the NJ, Pa, and NY area. Kreves was a member of The Artists' Gallery in Lambertville for several years, where she showed her paintings and ceramic works. In September '10 Kreves had a major solo show at the Rider University Art Gallery in Lawrenceville, NJ, "Joy Kreves - Translating Nature". She is a member of the ROOTS and Princeton Artists Alliances. Kreves also writes, sometimes incorporating it into her visual art. She is a member of the Delaware Valley Poets/US1 Poets Collective. She has taught art privately, and also taught a mixed media art class, "Flying Dreams! Think Like a Bird" at the Bucks County Audubon Society in New Hope, Pa.
Kreves' artworks have been featured in many exhibition venues including The Hunterdon Museum of Art, The Gallery at The College of New Jersey, The New Jersey Center for Visual Arts, The Palmer Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, The Gallery at Mercer County Community College, The Westerhoff Gallery in Metuchen, NJ, Ficus Above in Princeton, NJ, The New Hope Arts Center, The Watchung Arts Center, and Queensboro College Museum. She has had solo exhibitons at Ellarslie The Trenton City Museum, The Center for Visual Arts at Illinois State University, The Silva Gallery at The Pennington School in NJ, The Erdman Gallery and The D&R Greenway Gallery, both in Princeton, NJ, and The Corridor Gallery in NYC. She has been a juror for several exhibitions and her own work has been selected in numerous juried and invitational group exhibitions in New York, PA, and NJ, as well as nationally. Her artwork has appeared in several books and newspaper features and has been published in THE PARIS REVIEW and PRINCETON MAGAZINE.
